Motus Theater is partnering with the Black Alliance for Just Immigration to bring you UndocuMonologues: Stories from our Undocumented Neighbors. 

In this special performance from Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories: UndocuAmerica podcast, Patrisse Cullors stands in the shoes of Motus UndocuMonologist Armando Peniche by reading aloud his autobiographical story which describes his experience of racial profiling and the danger that inflammatory rhetoric targeting Mexican immigrants poses to an undocumented man and his American son.

After the reading, Patrisse Cullors and Armando Peniche reflect on the stories of those that survive police brutality. This reflection is followed by a poem written in honor of Armando’s story by national and international award-winning slam poet Dominique Christina; and a conversation with Nana Gyamfi, executive director of Black Alliance for Just Immigration, and Sydelle O’Brien, an undocumented Black activist. Powerful and healing music by Afro-Latino musical theater artist Carlos Heredia will be interwoven throughout the performance.
