We will advocate for laws that ensure that all immigrants are treated with respect and human dignity, and that affirm immigrants’ valuable contributions to our society. - National Justice for Our Neighbors
In Welcoming the Stranger, Motus Theater’s undocumented monologists invite you to step into their shoes. Their monologues interrupt the dehumanizing and racist, anti-immigrant narratives. Four monologues will be read by special guest readers: Claudia Marchan, the E.D. of Northern Illinois JFON in the greater Chicago area with a background in community organizing, community development and financial management; Alba Jaramillo, the E.D. of Arizona JFON with her own theater company, Teatro Dignidad and a background in social justice, human rights and the arts; Rev. Mark Salvacion, the E.D. of Delaware Valley JFON (currently located in PA) and the Pastor of Historic St. George’s United Methodist Church in Old City Philadelphia; and Rev. Dr. Will Reed, the Board Chair for the Houston JFON and Pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Pasadena. Each monologue is followed by a musical response from Uruguayan guitar soloist, Elisa Garcia.
This performance is part of Motus Theater’s Welcoming the Stranger series - a collaboration with faith leaders who express moral courage and civic hospitality as they read aloud the story of an undocumented person and reflect both personally and theologically on seeing the world through the eyes of an immigrant.
Sponsored by National Justice for Our Neighbors. The Justice for Our Neighbors network, founded by the United Methodist Church, provides free or low-cost immigration legal services to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers across the country.
Autobiographical monologues by Motus UndocuMonologists Tania Chairez, Alejandro Fuentes-Mena, Laura Peniche, and Armando Peniche. Performance presented by Motus Theater - creators of UndocuAmerica, Women of Resolution, Rocks Karma Arrows, and the Shoebox Stories Podcast.
