Power Playback Theater: Valentines, Arrows and Heart with special guest, Dominique Christina

  • Dairy Arts Center's Carsen Theater 2590 Walnut Street Boulder, CO, 80302 United States (map)

Join Motus Theater on February 5th for the start of an Improvisational Theater Adventure with special guest, international slam poet, Dominique Christina.

This spring Motus is developing a diverse group of actors to work together to share the stories of our community using a form of improvisational theater called Playback.

In a Playback performance, members of the audience are invited to tell stories from their lives, then watch as the improv actors enact them on the spot using movement, music and dramatic spoken word. The stories may be funny or sad, memories from long ago or yesterday. Audience and performers co-create a theater event whose subject is the life experiences of the people attending the show.

Motus is calling these performances “Power Playback Theater” because there is power within our stories and our truths. Stories are how we share our human adventure - the comedy, tragedy and resilience of life’s journey.

At a Power Playback performance, you will see a combination of courageous risk, as new performers step into this form, as well as experience a group of professional Playback actors. An exciting group of poets and musicians will join us to share their own response to the theme of each show.

Our first exploration is Saturday February 5th at 7pm at the Dairy Arts Center’s Carsen Theater. The theme of the performance is “Valentines, Arrows and Heart.”  Come share your love, heart, and sharp arrow stories.

Special artistic guests for this performance include the great internationally lauded slam poet, Dominique Christina who will be offering her own poetic responses to the theme.

Space is limited and all audience members must show proof of vaccination. (13 & up with accompanying adult). * Some adult content and language.
