Welcoming the Stranger with Reverend Wayne Laws & Armando Peniche

Our highest calling and responsibility as followers of Jesus is to work towards and nurture beloved community. Fundamental to this is welcoming the stranger. - Reverend Wayne Laws

Reverend Wayne Laws, Minister of Social Justice & Mission at the Mountain View United Church in Aurora, will be reading aloud Armando Peniche’s autobiographical story of racial profiling he experienced as a 12-year old boy, and the danger slanderous rhetoric poses to the undocumented community. The reading will be followed by both personal and theological reflections on the importance of sacred hospitality, and the impact of stepping into the shoes of an undocumented person.

This performance is part of Motus Theater’s Shoebox Stories project and our Welcoming the Stranger series - a collaboration with religious leaders who express moral courage and sacred hospitality as they read aloud the story of an undocumented person and reflect both personally and theologically on the impact of stepping into their shoes.

Sponsored by Mountain View United Church in Aurora.

Motus Theater is working creatively to meet the needs of people to connect meaningfully while honoring Safer-at-Home practices during the pandemic, and to find ways of reflecting on the ongoing challenges facing our community and democracy.
