Motus Theater reached a national audience in 2017 with our acclaimed performance of law enforcement leaders reading autobiographical monologues of DACA recipients from our “Do You Know Who I Am?” production. We followed this with a collaboration with the international musical icon, Yo-Yo Ma. Now, Motus Theater is developing the UndocuAmerica Performance & Media Project for a planned launch in 2019.
UndocuAmerica interrupts the dehumanizing portrayals of immigrants by encouraging thoughtful engagement on the challenges facing the undocumented community and the assets immigrants bring to our country. Motus will work with undocumented leaders to help them write powerful stories about their lives and then use media to reach a wider audience. Through a national podcast and live-streamed performances to sanctuary churches, their stories will reach Americans across the country.
Our UndocuRadio program/podcast will be the first radio program/podcast in the nation to focus on the lives of undocumented people. The media outreach will also feature national leaders reading stories of undocumented people to show the strong alliance between immigrants and non-immigrants across our country. Challenging the dehumanizing narratives in media is essential to the safety of immigrants and democracy.
The UndocuAmerica Project consists of three central components in 2018-2019:
Laura Peniche, Project & Engagement Manager
Kirsten Wilson, Artistic Director
